¿Crees que pasados los cincuenta es casi imposible bajar tiempos?

Seis de la madrugada, calentando por las calles de Madrid, Mayte, Henry y yo rodamos los primeros cuatro kilómetros conversando. Ritmo entre 6 y 6:30.
Mayte nos abandona en el kilómetro cinco y Henry, nuestra liebre con 56 años, comienza a acelerar mientras yo trato de seguir sus pasos. Mi cabeza se entretiene haciendo cálculos: “Cuanto queda?, a qué ritmo iremos? Se desesperará Henry conmigo si no lo puedo seguir? Y cuando llegue subida? ….
 
Jadeo, miro el reloj, trotamos a 5 sin apenas articular palabras y Henry se va alejando.
 
Me digo: “- Pilar no pienses, ahorra gasolina.”
Dirijo el foco a la respiración, fuera distracciones.
Le doy un mensaje sencillo a mi cerebro: un, dos, tres, inhalo y bajo el diafragma; un, dos, tres, exhalo y me relajo; vuelta a empezar.
Y me olvido del Garmin.
Alcanzo a Henry, no soy consciente de la cuesta, troto hipnotizada y mi mente solo cuenta.
 
Llegamos y mi Garmin marca los dos últimos kilómetros de subida: “4:20”.
Buen entreno, mejores sensaciones.
 
Ambos hemos pasado los cincuenta y mi ambición competitiva es menor, la de Henry no, -es hombre ;-); por ello mis entrenamientos son menos exigentes.
Es cierto que con la edad perdemos velocidad pero la madurez puede compensarlo si corremos de forma inteligente, siendo más eficientes.
Es la historia de la tortuga y la libre: tenemos menos recursos pero los empleamos todos.
 
Así surgen nuestros pequeños milagros, con 40 años tenía una media de 5 en los 10 km y si me esforzaba bajaba a 4:50; hoy, con menos entrenamiento, de repente un día, sin programarlo, cuando vuelco la mente en el cuerpo, los hago en 4:30…….
Entonces me pregunto ¿qué pasaría si entrenara como antes pero con los conocimientos del Runfulness?
  
Nuestro techo, como atletas populares, no lo llegamos a tocar nunca por ello nuestro margen de mejora seguirá existiendo.
 
El truco: no desperdicies los recursos que tienes aunque sean escasos.
 
 
No dejes que tu cerebro te robe gasolina.
Runfulness, corre con todo tu armamento: mente, alma y cuerpo y verás cómo bajan tus tiempos.
