hay mejora más alla de los 50Son las 6 de la madrugada, como todos los jueves, Mayte, Henry y yo rodamos por el asfalto de Madrid, los primeros kilómetros conversando.

Ritmo entre 6 y 6:30.

Mayte nos abandona en el kilómetro 5 y Henry, nuestra liebre, con 58 años, comienza a acelerar, mientras yo trato de seguir sus pasos.

Desde hace unos 15 años salgo todos los jueves de madrugada a veces troto simplemente y otras hago mis  series.

¿Puedes mejorar tus tiempos si has pasado los 40?

Mi cabeza se entretiene haciendo cálculos: “¿Cuanto queda?, ¿a qué ritmo iremos? Se desesperará Henry conmigo si no lo puedo seguir? Y cuando llegue subida? .¿Me ahogaré?…

Jadeo, miro mi Garmin y veo que trotamos a 5 sin apenas articular palabras.

Henry se aleja cada vez más.

Me digo: “- Pilar estás rumiando sobre el futuro, calma la mente y  ahorra gasolina.”

  • Dirijo el foco a la respiración, fuera distracciones.
  • Ocupo la mente con un trabajo  sencillo:  el 1, 2, 3, del Runfulness (inhalo en 3 y bajo el diafragma; exhalo lo relajo); vuelta a empezar.
  • Miro al horizonte
  • Y desconecto del Garmin.

¿ Puede el entrenamiento mental lograr que rindas más?

Alcanzo a Henry, no soy consciente de la  pendiente, troto hipnotizada y mi mente tan solo cuenta: 1, 2, 3.

Llegamos y mi Garmin me canta en los dos últimos kilómetros de subida: “4:20”.
Buen entreno, mejores sensaciones.

Ambos hemos pasado los 50 y mi ambición competitiva es menor, por ello mis entrenos suelen ser menos exigentes.

Sin embargo, aunque hago menos kilómetros todavía sigo bajando tiempos.

¿No es cierto que la madurez aporta eso?

Aprovechamos mejor los recursos con los que contamos: músculos y MENTE.

Es cierto que con la edad perdemos velocidad pero la madurez puede compensarlo si corremos de forma inteligente, siendo más eficientes.
Es la historia de la tortuga y la libre: tenemos menos recursos pero los empleamos todos.

Así surgen nuestros pequeños milagros, con 40 años mi media era 5 en los 10 km y si me esforzaba bajaba a 4:50; hoy, con menos entrenamiento, sin programarlo, cuando vuelco la mente en el  running, los hago en 4:30…….

Entonces me pregunto: ¿ qué pasaría si entrenara como antes pero con los conocimientos del Método Walden?

Nuestro techo, como atletas populares, no lo  tocamos casi nunca, por ello nuestro margen de mejora seguirá existiendo.

No desperdicies los recursos que tienes aunque sean escasos.

Y no dejes que tu cerebro le robe gasolina a tus piernas rumiando.

Corre en modo Runfulness, con todo tu armamento: mente, alma y cuerpo y verás cómo bajan tus tiempos.
